Video Tape Transfer

Over the last thirty years, most weddings, graduations, births, kids sports and holiday get-togethers were captured on video tape. If you’re between the ages of 15 and 45, chances are that any video taken of you and your family was captured on some form of video tape.

Video Tape based recording (like all tape based recording) was a quantum leap forward in terms of its ease of use and ease of playback for professionals and consumers alike. However, video tape is a magnetic storage medium and absolutely will degrade over time. So far, there is no reliable method that will predict the life of tapes. An American National Standards Institute (ANSI) committee is currently considering development of a method for estimating Life Expectancy for tapes. Twenty years is a reasonable life expectancy although there have been reports of playback problems in tapes as young as seven years old. If you want to watch the video footage you have on tape in the future, our advice is to transfer those tapes to DVD now.

Movie Film Transfer

Before VHS, Beta and mini DV, most family movies were recorded on Regular 8 mm or Super 8 mm movie film. Some folks even used the higher quality 16 mm format. Lakeside Camera Photoworks can transfer your home movie film to DVD which can then be duplicated and shared with the entire family. Image quality from these films is partly dependent on how well the original film was exposed and if Grandpa properly focused the camera! Nonetheless, we are often amazed at the quality reproductions we get from these forgotten reels. Kodachrome stock in particular can look like it was taken yesterday. Don’t delay in transferring movie film. Like any other recording media, movie film deteriorates over time. If yours is in the attic, please get it out. The worst place to store photographic materials of any kind is a hot, humid South Louisiana attic.

Prints From Video Sources

If you need a still image file or print from a scene in a video clip, we can help. Naturally, we’ll need you to identify the frame you want us to capture so its best to call before you arrive. 504.885.8660 This service is available in Metairie only.

Prints from video sources are often used by law enforcement, private investigators and other members of the legal community. Admittedly, prints made from video sources do not compete with traditional images made with a still camera in terms of resolution and sharpness. However, if the only source of an event you have is a video, you can count on Lakeside Camera Photoworks to make it as good as it can be.

There is a $50 setup fee per session. Each image capture is $10, prints can be made at our standard print prices and an archival CD backup of the captured files is $15.

Video and Audio Tape Repairs

The video technicians at Lakeside Camera Photoworks can, in most cases, repair video and audio tapes that have been cut or damaged in such a way as to make them unplayable. Assuming we are able to mend the problem tape, we will then transfer the video or audio to a new more stable medium like CD or DVD.

Digital Files to DVD

There seem to be as many digital video formats as there are capture devices. At Lakeside Camera Photoworks, we can convert most video formats to other formats although most conversions head straight for DVD because it is the most universally used format and offers excellent quality on TV screens.

What if you wanted to have a presentation play on repeat in a DVD player? Many sales professionals are perfectly comfortable designing presentations in Powerpoint. Design away, we’ll take care of the technical details.

Some of the files we’ve worked with include Powerpoint, Keynote, MPG, AVI, MOV, WMV, MOD and many more.

There is a $19 setup fee for each session regardless of the number of files you give us and $60 for each DVD master we create. Duplicates of the DVD master can be ordered at our standard DVD duplication prices.
